Does Prague, with its dozen national newspapers, freesheets and tabloids, need another daily? VLP thinks so. It launched Pražský deník last week, adding a crucial link to its chain of regional and local papers. The key to its success in Prague will be to find a way to make readers go out of their way to try the paper. It got off to a good start by featuring newsworthy interviews with Vlastimil Tlustý and Miloš Zeman. Zeman, for example, said he'd like to see the Greens wiped off the political map. Pražský deník won't have much of an impact in the short term, but as national and international news becomes more and more of a commodity, its model might prove to be a winner. Readers will want a heavy dose of local news, with just enough scoops, analysis and commentary to make them feel well-informed. Most of the rest they can get from the radio, TV or internet.[Czech Republic television Vltava-Labe-Presse ODS ČSSD newspaper media]
