Sometimes you have to wonder whether Green Chair Martin Bursík isn't a secret Klaus admirer. First Bursík picks the unelectable Jan Švejnar as his presidential favorite, thereby indirectly helping Klaus, and now he's playing into Klaus's hands on global warming. Thanks to Bursík, Klaus's otherwise mundane speech this month at a U.N. conference on global warming has turned into major news: Klaus is threatening the CR's chances to become a non-permanent member of the Security Council with his stance on climate change, because island nations at risk from rising waters might vote against the CR. This is the same kind of hyperbole that Klaus so often uses to raise issues. In fact, Bursík told LN that "if he were in Klaus's role" he'd use the media to his advantage just as Klaus does. Sounds like Bursík might be using the Klaus card to launch his own 2013 presidential campaign. [Czech Republic United Nations Lidové noviny Václav]
