She didn't know it at the time, but Karolína Peake could have used Colin Firth's famous line from last year's Oscars as she accepted the position of defense minister: "I have a feeling my career has just peaked." Now that she is trying to arrest the sharp plummet that quickly ensued, the question is what to do with her. She has very few duties as vice PM. One idea is to borrow from the Russians, who created the position of business ombudsman. It's the job of Boris Titov to protect the rights of businesspeople and to improve Russia's image. It would't hurt to have someone on the Czech cabinet doing the same. Someone needs to stand up for honest business and oppose the policies of Miroslav Kalousek and Martin Kuba. Before she latched on to Omnipol, Peake showed promise by doing good work on the public-procurement law.
