Ex-Deputy Foreign Min. Petr Drulák yesterday compared the broad political support in the CR for the expulsion this week of 18 Russian diplomats to the broad support American politicians showed in 2003 for the invasion of Iraq. We are heading toward breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia, he said, and it is based on scant information that has not been sufficiently documented or proven. It's true that nothing other than the initial states of emergency declared last year has elicited as much support from the opposition for a policy of the government of Andrej Babiš. Essentially all Czech politicians are going along with the new Russia agenda, except for the Communists and SPD. The opposition did not protest much last year when the government first locked down the country because of covid and closed the borders, and the lockdown of relations with Russia is following the same template: Hastily called press conferences, drastic measures, and no real political opposition.
