Collapsing in style
2008-09-12
If you gotta go, you might as well go out with a bang, but the
Topolánek cabinet risks collapsing because of a little hooky
wooky in a jacuzzi. There are so many issues more worthy of a
good coalition spat than the Morava-Tlustý scandal. How about
the judicial abuse in the Čunek case, the nuke dispute, the radar
steamroller, or the failure to shift more cargo traffic from roads
to rail? Songwriter and retired bookie Michal Horáček told F1
radio that the sting operation by TV Nova and MFD was a waste
of time and money if the goal was to show that politicians are
capable of succumbing to temptation. Duh! If the investigative
journalists wanted to do something useful, he said, they could
turn their hidden cameras on the four construction companies
winning all the overpriced road contracts. That, we add, would
produce an explosion in Czech politics worthy of an over-the-
top Hollywood action flick!
