Free speech at TV Nova
Týden magazine, a competitor to PPF's Euro business
weekly, suggested this week that PPF had used Euro to
"set the tone" for its entry into TV Nova. A Euro article on
June 10 broke the news that MEF Holding, which
provides services to Nova, was suspected of siphoning
money out of the station. Vladimír Železný said later that
the documents on which the Euro story was based had
to have come from Aleš Rozehnal's law office.
Rozehnal used to represent Železný but recently
switched camps and is now openly backing PPF.
Spokesman Martin Švehla of PPF said that Týden was
engaging in unsubstantiated speculation with its story.
Asked if PPF would use TV Nova to promote its own
interests, just as Týden suggested it had done with
Euro, Švehla said that PPF wouldn't interfere with
Nova's broadcasting or programming.
