Gross's money mill
2005-01-27
MF Dnes is adamantly trying to show that Stanislav Gross used
illicit funds to pay for his Kč 4m Prague apartment in 1999.
Gross claims that he got Kč 1.2m of the money from his uncle,
but MFD has shown the fissures in this argument. Next perhaps
will be an article with numbers showing that not even the loan
would have been enough to finance the flat. Meanwhile, some of
Gross's enemies are spreading the rumor that the money was a
payoff for keeping the police away from dirty deals concluded
under the Zeman-Klaus-Železný opposition agreement. There's
a direct link, the rumor goes, between Gross's apartment and his
secret "Mill" police squad, which got involved in these cases.
This is all unconfirmed speculation, but until Gross explains
where he got his cash and what the Mill police team was doing,
the rumors will gain in credibility. [Czech Republic Miloš Zeman
