Learning from Al Gore
2007-01-18
Comedian Steven Wright has a theory that global warming began
when the cold war ended. The cold war within ODS has receded
- even Pavel Bém supports the new government - but how
thorough the thaw will be is a question for the next several
months. Václav Klaus made an attempt at détente on the
presidential level by inviting Mirek Topolánek to the Castle for a
foreign-policy meeting, but a "sick" Topolánek publicly snubbed
him. Will Topolánek ever forgive Klaus for trying to destroy his
political career? Without Topolánek's support, Klaus's glacier of
power will melt fast. Klaus didn't think much of Al Gore's book
on global warming, but the two might have more in common
than it first seems. Gore distanced himself from Bill Clinton in
the 2000 presidential campaign, because Clinton was tainted by
Monica Lewinsky. Political analysts say it probably cost Gore the
elections.
