More on Klaus and Moore
Everyone, it seems, has an explanation for why Václav Klaus
spoke out so loudly against "Fahrenheit 9/11." One reader said
Klaus was taking advantage of the vacuum left by George W.
Bush and John Kerry, who have avoided commenting on the film.
Another reader said Klaus was currying favor with Bush and was
using his LN article to go out of his way not to gloat about being
right about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. Klaus himself
warned in LN against the oversimplification of the world
situation that Michael Moore's film promotes, and some readers
took this as Klaus' primary message. Perhaps, but would this
have caused Klaus to nearly leave the theater twice, as he stated
in LN? Several years ago Klaus criticized the classic Czech film
"Marečku, podejte mi pero." At times, Klaus the intellectual
simply can't resist disliking what others like. Lidové noviny
