Spidla's broken promise

ODS has done an effective job of pointing out that Premier Špidla didn't keep his promise to consult with it before choosing the EU commissioner. Miloš Kužvart was nominated yesterday, despite getting only ČSSD's support. Špidla has the chance to redeem himself by working with ODS on the commercial registry. Kužvart will soon disappear to Brussels, but company registration will remain an impediment to day-to-day business until coordinated steps are taken. ODS's version of a remedy is supported by the American Chamber of Commerce, which has been working with the government on the issue, and the Euro-Czech Forum. There's a squabble over whether the courts should have five or 14 days to make an entry, but this can be resolved. All it takes is for Špidla to show a true willingness to work with the opposition on pressing issues that cross party lines. register Vladimír
