TV Nova gets outlobbied
Parliament's bill-cookers voted down a measure
yesterday that would have tightened TV Nova's near-
monopoly on the TV advertising market. Until yesterday,
it looked almost certain to pass. Even Czech TV was in
favor of it. HN printed a revealing article yesterday
about the bill-baking process and took credit for the turn
of events, but lobbying by the Branded Goods
Association no doubt played a role too. TV Nova
apparently noticed. It wondered suggestively in its
evening news last night what possibly could have
caused so many MPs to change their mind so abruptly?
"There are two things in the world you don't ever want
people to see how you make them," said the president's
chief of staff on the The West Wing TV show. "Laws and
sausages." The CR has excellent sausages, but its laws
