VK for VK

2010-05-31
It doesn't work in English, but in Czech the initials for both grand coalition (velká koalice) and Václav Klaus are VK. Despite the lopsided victory of the Right in the elections, there's no reason to believe that VK won't continue to push for a VK. Perhaps the ideal outcome for him would be a four-party coalition of ÈSSD, ODS, TOP 09 and VV. At first glance, it wouldn't be a grand coalition at all, and the government of national unity - or whatever they called it - would allow the nation's byznys-meni to sit down civilly and divide everything up. Not only that, but the two major parties could gradually and systematically subsume the other two, now that TOP 09 and VV have served their purpose. In Klaus's words for LN today, they aren't real political parties anyway. And finally, by changing the electoral law, the dalliance voters had this time with "dangerous" new parties could be avoided in the future. [Czech Republic Vìci veĝejné]
