Jana Nagyová Nečasová and three former Czech intelligence officials will appear in court today on charges of using military intelligence to run illegal surveillance on Petr Nečas's wife while he was prime minister. Critics of the way the Nečas government was brought down by the anti-corruption police and state prosecutors said mockingly that if this is all the prosecutors had, it made the change of government look like a political coup. However, things look a bit different today, now that U.S. prosecutors and FBI officials want to charge ex-CIA Director David Petraeus with passing classified documents to his biographer and mistress. His case is perhaps more serious, esp. if the mistress leaked the information to someone else, but the basic premise is the same: You can't abuse the intelligence services to feed your libido. Nečasová can only hope that Czech judges don't follow the news and start applying international standards. [Czech Republic United States of America]
