Central European Media Enterprises entered into a merger agreement with an affiliate of PPF on Oct. 27, 2019, regarding TV Nova and other television stations, but the deal isn't to be voted on by CME's shareholders until a special general meeting one week from today in Bermuda. The appropriate document filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reveals that PPF initially wanted to proceed jointly with a financial sponsor and a European strategic investor, referred to collectively as "Party G." The identity of Party G was never revealed to the public, and PPF later dropped the idea. There are rumors in business circles that the "financial sponsor" was ex-CEO Martin Roman of ČEZ and that he is still involved in the deal. If this were true, it would closely mirror the way Roman allegedly hid behind Marek Čmejla and Jiří Diviš to invest in Radovan Vítek's CPI Property Group. The NCOZ police crime squad is now investigating that transaction, according to today's Právo. [ Czech Republic Time Warner Petr AT&T CETV United States of America ]
