Final Word from Tuesday, December 20, 2022

Yesterday was probably the most action-packed day so far in the Czech presidential election. Andrej Babiš was in court again in the Stork Nest's case and learned that a verdict might be rendered one week before the elections. An accreditation report cast doubt on the way Danuše Nerudová handled plagiarism and degree-peddling scandals while she was the rector of Mendel Univ. Petr Pavel said that he is being targeted by people around Babiš, Miloš Zeman and the pro-Russian community and predicted that he will be accused of having beaten his first wife. Marek Hilšer made fun of them all by calling a press conference to announce that he won't step aside to the benefit of one of the higher-rated "democratic" candidates. Hilšer, Pavel Fischer, Josef Středula, Jaroslav Bašta, Karel Diviš and Tomáš Zima can only hope that the media overkill we saw from all sides yesterday continues. If voters get too much of one or more of the favorites, one of the underdogs might actually have a chance. [ Czech Republic university outsider ]
