A special assault team was brought in this morning from Bavaria to raid the senior state prosecutors' offices in Prague and Olomouc for suspicion of leaking sensitive information about ongoing criminal investigations. Eyewitnesses said that four people were detained. Rumors that bank accounts were frozen and safety-deposit boxes impounded could not be confirmed. We're joking, of course, but if there weren't such a double standard, we might hear Justice Minister Helena Válková declare: "There were worrying signs that prosecutors and police were using illegal leaks to build their case in the arena of public opinion against Petr Nečas, Jana Nagyová, Ivo Rittig and others. Violating a suspect's rights is as much a crime as buying a Cartier necklace with dirty money. As justice minister, I want to win back the people's confidence. Arrests have been made, and it's up to an independent court to determine guilt or innocence." [Czech Republic Lenka Bradáčová Ivo Ištvan ANO]

Glossary of difficult words

note - this is political satire; there was no raid this morning, and the comment attributed to Justice Minister Válková was not actually made by her;

to impound - to seize and take legal custody of something because of an infringement of a law or regulation.
