Final Word from Tuesday, February 22, 2022

Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions on Presidents' Day, a U.S. holiday, so U.S. markets weren't able to react fully to the news. European markets fell yesterday by about 2% and will apparently open this morning without knowing for sure whether the White House is going to consider the deployment of Russian troops in Donetsk and Luhansk last night as a "further invasion" that triggers "severe sanctions," the arrival of more Little Green Men that does too, or merely a minor incursion. Nor is it entirely clear whether Vladimir Putin has now acted within the "window" that the Biden administration had spoken about repeatedly. Regardless of what the answers are, the window of opportunity is indeed closing for those Czechs affected by the other major escalation in their lives - higher interest rates by Jiří Rusnok's Czech National Bank. For many people, Putin and Rusnok at the same time will be too much to handle. [ Czech Republic Ukraine Ukrainian CNB can you afford your new home mortgage loan real estate ]
