The trip to Kyiv of the Czech, Polish and Slovenian PMs can be seen as a way to force the hand of the U.S. and Nato. Polish Vice PM Jaroslaw Kaczynski called in Kyiv for an armed Nato peace mission, which would require the U.S. to put its money where its mouth is in terms of "unwavering support" for Ukraine's territorial integrity. The U.S. hasn't commented publicly so far on the visit, although Czech PM Petr Fiala might have spoken about it during a call on Mon. with VP Kamala Harris. Nato Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said only that meetings on all levels are important. The unstated message of the Kyiv visit is that the three PMs don't want another Munich Agreement that puts them next in line for Russian aggression. If the U.S. truly does not intend to get involved military, the Kyiv visit serves to move Central Europe slightly away from Washington's immediate orbit.
