Final Word from Tuesday, May 20, 2014
No other Czech - not a single other person - has stood up publicly as strongly against Petr Kellner as Vladimír Železný. In the early 2000s, when he was fighting with PPF over TV Nova, Železný said that anything Kellner touches dies. Železný said on his "Call the Director" program in 2004 that people were telling him stories about how PPF had had people run over in Russia and killed in Romania but that he laughs at this, because Kellner made a good impression on him. A few months later, Kellner said he has pity on Železný, because he's sick. Fast-forward to 2014. Železný was fired in April as CEO of TV Barrandov by Jaromír Soukup and was bumped up to the post of head of strategy of Soukup's Empresa Media. Soon thereafter, the revived "Call Železný" program was canceled. And then yesterday, Soukup said on iHNED that Železný no longer works for him. This comes as rumors are circulating that Kellner has agreed to finance Soukup's failing media empire. Železný burned bridges with Kellner and seemingly paid the price.
