A careful reading of the White House's announcement on Thur. reveals that the 35 Russian diplomats kicked out of the U.S. met their fate in response to the harassment of U.S. personnel in Russia. The White House stated specifically: "In response to this harassment, the President has authorized the following actions: Today the State Department declared 35 Russian government officials ... 'persona non grata.'" According to one report, an intruder had even broken into a diplomat's home and defecated on the carpet. Yet the White House intentionally gave the impression that the 35 Russians were interfering in the presidential election. This is precisely the kind of "fake news," "post-truth" politics or "clickbait" the Obama administration has been warning us about - tying two things together that aren't directly related and suggesting a link. The Czech media fell for it. But that's okay, because reporting fake news in defense of a "good cause" is admirable, right? [Czech Republic hacking US United States]
