On Dec. 2 of this year, China imposed sanctions on several U.S. nonprofit organizations that "played an egregious role in the recent disturbance related to an amendment bill in Hong Kong." Among the NGOs sanctioned by the Chinese government was the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). It's a federally funded, private, nonprofit corporation whose mandate from Congress includes promoting U.S. interests abroad (Title V, Public Law 98-164). It may not do this directly, but only through the programs it funds. Any program that receives funding from NED must be consistent with the goal of promoting U.S. interests. Among the programs receiving regular funding is Sinopsis. The National Endowment for Democracy is one of its four main sponsors, which makes Sinopsis essentially an agent of U.S. foreign policy. If PPF's Home Credit is now funding a rival organization with opposing goals, Sinoskop, what we have in Prague is a Sino-American proxy war. [ Czech Republic United States of America ]
