Hospodářské noviny cited unnamed diplomats as long ago as Jan. 31, 2019, as saying that the U.S., Poland and the CR make up the core group in Nato that wants to take up the issue of protecting against cybersecurity and other threats from China. The report in HN came six weeks after the NÚKIB cybersecurity agency issued a warning about equipment from Huawei and ZTE of China. The U.S. president has since changed, but NÚKIB again followed the U.S.'s lead in early March of this year by warning against TikTok. Between these two events, Karel Řehka, the head of NÚKIB since March 2020, was appointed army chief of staff. The next logical step, which would require the cooperation of Parliament, is to pass a law allowing the Czech state to ban Chinese apps like TikTok. Just such a bill, known as the RESTRICT Act, is now in the U.S Senate. It's not particularly easy reading, but those who want to get a jump on what NÚKIB will likely be doing next might want to give it a try.
