The Spolu coalition will launch its "largest election roadshow" in Prague today, and voters will no doubt learn more about what PM Petr Fiala and his colleagues plan to do in a second term. ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 already announced their election program on March 25, when they signed a new coalition agreement, but that was before Friedrich Merz was elected German chancellor and before he and French Pres. Emmanuel Macron called for a Franco-German "reset" for Europe. Unlike the Spolu agreement, that document speaks of climate neutrality in terms of energy policy and uniform implementation of the EU migration pact. These two key items apply nominally only to France and Germany, but Fiala told the Financial Times in March that the Russian threat had forced him to drop his long-standing opposition to a greater leadership role for large states like Germany and France. Those wondering what Fiala would do in a second term should probably read what Merz and Macron intend to do. [ Czech Republic FT European Union European Pact on Asylum and Migration ]
