PM Petr Fiala has rarely uttered the word "Iran" in public but did so after his national security adviser, Tomáš Pojar, returned at the end of Jan. from a week of meetings in Washington. Fiala told Czech TV on Feb. 2 (at 25:30) that the situation in the Middle East will never be stable until "we weaken Iran with the combined forces of the West." In line with this, he and other Czech ministers have now expressed understanding for Israel's efforts over the past few days to stop Iran's nuclear and missile programs. Fiala told Blesk in Nov., after speaking to Donald Trump on the phone, that "reaching a good solution to the conflict in Ukraine may be a little harder than calming the situation in the Middle East." Neither has proven easy at all, and Fiala's government continues to play a small but significant supporting role in both areas. If Fiala can call a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss bitcoin, he might also want to do so to address what this new war means for Czech security and energy security.
