Final Word from Monday, October 27, 2025
Two weeks after Václav Moravec of Czech TV devoted a segment of his Sun. debate show to questioning the qualifications of lawyer Zdeněk Koudelka to be a deputy justice minister, another Sun. show on ČT, Newsroom, went after Koudelka's possible future boss, Jeroným Tejc. The occasion last night was the 12-year anniversary of the "Lány putsch," in which Tejc, now a possible ANO nominee for justice minister, played a key role. He was one of five members of ČSSD who met secretly on Oct. 26, 2013, with Pres. Miloš Zeman at the Lány retreat about replacing Bohuslav Sobotka as party chairman. Marking the 12th anniversary of anything, except maybe a marriage or birthday, isn't really a tradition, but some of those on the winning side of the Lány putsch, including people at Czech TV, have good reasons to bring up the issue now. Last night's segment shows that ANO's candidates, and not just the Motorists' and SPD's, will also be put through the wringer by those trying to stop the new government.
