ODS Chair Martin Kupka said in opening a special session of Parliament yesterday that one of the key reasons for a vote of no-confidence in the government is the lack of respect Andrej Babiš has shown for the Constitutional Court. Babiš could file a jurisdictional complaint against Pres. Petr Pavel's unwillingness to appoint MP Filip Turek to the cabinet, Kupka said, but he refuses to because he says he has his "own experience" with the Court. Chief Justice Josef Baxa of the Court told CNN Prima News on Jan. 29 that he isn't clear himself about whether the president must appoint a cabinet nominee and doesn't think anyone is. He said this two weeks after the lower chamber of Parliament voted 101-77 to resolve that the president must indeed appoint a cabinet nominee and should do so. By completely disregarding this vote and saying he doesn't think anyone is clear on the issue, Baxa took the side of the Castle, which is an example of why Babiš is trying to ignore Baxa and has so little respect for his Court.
