PM Andrej Babiš said after the cabinet meeting on Feb. 2 that ANO definitely doesn't support wind turbines and that he personally fought against them in the Osoblažsko area. When someone builds a 250-meter tower, he said, it destroys nature, and people in general don't want them; we're not by the sea. This was more or less in line with Donald Trump's position too. "For too long, Trump says, "the Federal Government has forced American taxpayers to subsidize expensive and unreliable energy sources like wind and solar." Yet on Feb. 20, Industry Min. Karel Havlíček issued an Economic Strategy 2.0 that calls for "enabling the construction of at least 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030." Depending on the breakdown, this could mean hundreds of wind turbines, in addition to the current 245. The war in Iran gives promoters of wind energy a strong new argument, as TV Nova told us last week. Which raises the question of whether Babiš is going to listen this time more to Trump or to Havlíček. [ Czech Republic acceleration zones power PPF ]
