Almost everything the opposition parties are saying about the draft 2027 national budget unveiled yesterday by Finance Min. Alena Schi­llerová is true. Of course it's bad policy to have a huge budget deficit in times of economic growth, low inflation and low unemployment. Of course it means that the increase in the servicing of the national debt will give creditors more control over the country's fate. And of course the country is on an unswerving path to national bankruptcy. But let those without sin cast the first stone. Almost all of those criticizing the 2027 draft budget have been guilty of the same offense in the past. One of the foundations of the final phase of Western civilization is unmanageable debt, and anyone who truly opposes it is banished from polite society. Andrej Babiš himself has warned that the EU is "now probably on the same road as the end of the Roman empire." He was referring specifically to decarbonization costs, but they're merely another facet of the same debt problem. Babiš knows where the debt is taking us, and he's eagerly leading us there anyway.
